You will be pleased to know that today, after 14 days of walking from Weathertop, I have finally had a ‘flight to the ford’. Thats right, today is the day that Glorfindel uttered for Frodo to be whisked away by his horse with the Nazgul in swift pursuit. At the Fords of Bruinen he made what seemed like it was going to be his last stand, until the waters of the Bruinen soared upon the Black Riders, and the day was saved. I took a deep breath as I sat upon my pony looking out across the Ford, taking in the surroundings and imagining the fear.
“Go back, go back, and follow me no more” I uttered. Not at the Nazgul, but at what I thought was the heavy footsteps of Kinthorin the dwarf. Incidentally, it wasn’t him!
My journey ended in the Last Homely House East of the Sea – the house of Elrond. It is very satisfying to have reached Rivendell, and I intend to do a fair amount of relaxing before my journey commences properly again on the 26th December. I do have a few adventures in mind, such as retracing the steps of those that tried to ensure that the Nazgul had been lost.
That can wait though! I am thirsting for a good few ales, and plan to sleep for as long as I can. Maybe even beating the few days of shut-eye that Frodo managed!
